In Sanskrit, the ruby is called ratnaraj, or, “King of Precious Stones”. When offered to Krishna, it granted rebirth as an emperor in Ancient Hinduism. The true Oriental ruby was known as a Brahmin, the highest of four castes rubies were divided among. It continued to establish its reputation as one of the twelve most precious stones created on Earth, worn primarily by those in the upper class.
