Itzpapalotl Revealed

Archetypal “purifier” of Aztec origin, this “Obsidian Butterfly” is a fearsome warrior goddess who ruled over the paradise world, Tamoanchan, where humans were created. Itzpapalotl was the patron of the day and of women and children who died in childbirth. To pass through her kingdom is to be cleansed of all ills and reborn again. As a star demon, she sometimes did this by devouring people during solar eclipses.
