Seek Inspiration

According to legend, when Pegasus was a young colt, Athena took him to the isle of the Muses, who then raised and loved him. In his excitement upon his arrival, Pegasus struck the earth with his hooves. A spring flowed forth from where his hooves landed. These springs were said to be a source of inspiration and sacred to the Muses.

There are times when we find ourselves without inspiration. We lose direction and need help to find our way. In these moments, there are many things we can do to find inspiration. A walk in the woods, meditation, listening to music – all can help to clear the mind. Guidance from a role model or mentor can also help, as can brainstorming with a friend.

Inspiration can also find us in the form of synchronicity, i.e. random and seemingly unrelated occurrences that feel like they are connected. For example, you could find a feather while out taking photos of birds. You pick it up and take it home, placing it on the table. You then open the book you were reading earlier, and one of the first words you see written on the page is “feather”. You brush it aside coincidence until you meet a friend the next day, and they mention a local ornithology workshop they are attending and ask you to come. You attend and find yourself inspired to take your interest in birds further. You want to learn more, and so you apply for more formal and intensive courses.

Seek inspiration, and what you seek will find you.
