Flax Seed

Flax Seed has been used for thousands of years as a staple in both cuisine, health, magick, and the production of linens and cloths. Its usefulness is presented by its Latin name, Linum usitatissimum, which translates to “thread most useful”.

One of the oldest cultivated crops for humankind, Flax Seed’s uses have been passed down through traditions dating back to the origin of Ayurveda and Ancient Egyptian cultures. Used in Ayurveda as a staple for balancing the skin pH (Mathura), improving strength and elasticity of the skin (Balya), helps to lubricate the internal system (Picchaila), while promoting wound healing (Vranahrit), removing blemishes of the skin (Tvagdoshahrit), and to assist in balancing Vata. The seed has been used to create fibrous linens, which were used to wrap mummies. Its usefulness travelled quickly to Ancient Greece, where they used it to create decorative awnings, clothing, nets for fishing and the sails of ships.

The seed’s contents of lignans, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids have shown in study to help some with symptoms of muscular and joint inflammation, diabetes, autoimmune and neurological disorders, as well as menopause. It has shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular issues and has shown to decrease one’s cancer risk, with focus on mammary and prostate glands. Its fiber content can help ‘move things along’, as Flax Seed has shown to have some laxative effects.

A source of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, Flax is believed to bring endurance of both body and mind and helps to control the aging process. Its lignans act as antioxidants for the human body and contain phytoestrogens, which help mitigate free radical damage and bring balance to estrogen deficiencies (respectively).

Primarily grown in Canada (the world’s largest producer of Flax Seed), it is also grown in China, India, Ethiopia, and the United States. Due to their fatty acid content, Flax Seeds may go rancid over time and are best stored in an airtight container, ideally in the fridge or freezer.

Place Flax Seed in a bag for protection over children or while you sleep. Burn Flax Seed in a fireproof bowl with self-igniting charcoal to invite cashflow and prosperity, while also enhancing psychic ability in adults. Place Flax Seed above your main doorway or in a spell bag to ward evil from your home.

Flax seed should be taken with at least 200 ml (6 oz) of water. Orally administered drugs should be taken one hour before use or several hours after, as flax seed may slow the absorption.
