Amethyst was originally carved into shapes of animals to be used as totems for calmness, peace, prosperity, and overall healing.
Originally discovered in 2500 B.C. Amethyst has represented a status of nobility and spiritual awareness for those that carried such a totem or wore it as a ring. It is said that the various benefits of Amethyst would extend to those who kissed the ring of those that wore it.
Linked to the Greek God of Wine, Bacchus, Amethyst is said to negate the intoxicating effects of alcohol for the consumer that wears it. A stone of overall balance, clarity, and spiritual purity, the stone has been used in Egyptian burial ceremonies (known as Hemag), worn for protection in battle and by travelers to stave off thieves and trouble. In Hebrew culture, this stone is Ahlamahii the ninth in a breastplate worn by the High Priest.
Leonardo DaVinci said this stone helps to clear of negative thoughts and boosts focus of your intelligence. Today, many continue to use the stone to help aid in healing of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wounds and align planetary or astrological influences. It helps to balance the Crown and Third Eye Chakra, allowing one to connect to their higher self. Amethyst can be used to balance energies, alleviate anger, and works to improve communication, especially that involving emotions. A stone of calmness, it works to ease fear and anxiety, while helping to protect from psychic attack; it transmutes negative energy into the frequency of Unconditional love and can help one to overcome addiction.
