Elecampane

Elecampane has been revered since Ancient Roman times as a staple for food and medicine. Lore says its namesake was Helen of Troy who was holding it in her hand when she set off for Troy. A tonic herb to “sustain spirits”, Elecampane is still cultivated and propagated throughout western Asia and southeastern Europe.

Elecampane contains a compound called Inulin, which was extracted from the herb in 1804 and used to help soothe bronchial linings, due to its mucilagenous properties. It creates a film over one’s bronchial tract to ease its inflammation. It works as an expectorant, meaning it first coats the lungs, then encourages the system to rid itself of built up mucus, as well as an antibacterial and antiseptic. This makes Elecampane work wonders for infections, especially when used in conjunction with a complimentary herb. It can also be used to reduce the sharp sting/burn from Stinging Nettle!

The perennial grows best in moist, well-drained soil and its root must be dried in high temperatures for optimal effect.

Best used in magickal workings surrounding air, Elecampane can be used in ritual and spell work for the intentions of love, protection, or to help enhance psychic abilities you may be stifling. Use in blessings for births, children, or workings with your inner child. It allows you the space to feel Divine love, which lifts your spirits to a place where your Crown chakra may connect with your Heart. It works well as an aphrodisiac. Use this herb to call home that which has found itself lost.

Persons with allergies to other members of the Asteraceae family (such as feverfew, chamomile, or Echinacea) should exercise caution as a potential allergen. Large doses may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and cramping.

It is recommended that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
