Nettle
“Stinging” Nettle Leaf has more than earned its label as one of the most important staple herbs that grow in most forests. As a traveling passenger, keep your eye on the side of the road for the same herb used since the Bronze Age (3000 BCE – 1200 BCE). Nettle’s strong, fibrous nature made it clear the plant could be used as thread woven into textiles interchangeable with the quality of cotton. An extremely popular textile throughout 16th and 17th century Scotland and Kawaiisu tribe, Nettle serves in Celtic lore as a protector of thresholds and from lightning. In the 19th century, it was often used as a treatment for hair growth. Harvested primarily in Northern Africa, Asia, Native America, and Europe, it’s been used to ease childbirth and cease menstrual bleeding in Native American women.
This blood purifier works as an expectorant and diuretic, meaning it works to dispel the lungs of phlegm and flush the system of excess sodium, which can help to treat joint and muscle pain. Nettle is riddled with anti-inflammatory properties that can help rid the body of UTI’s, high blood pressure, nasal allergies, nosebleeds, asthma, and cough when taken as a tea, extract, tincture, capsule, or pill.
Use Nettle to reverse hexes, keep spirits at bay, guard thresholds and properties, as well as your seasonal allergy healing staple! Due to its protective properties, it is wise to use Nettle to enhance magickal workings associated with the planet Mars, the divine Masculine, or the element of fire.
Use gloves when harvesting this stinging plant, otherwise you will incur Nettle “burn”.
