Mullein

Mullein is a member of the figwort family that is native to North Africa, Canary Islands, and many regions of Asia and Europe, but grows in most ecosystems lavishly. Its seeds can remain viable for use for up to 70 years.

Considered to be one of many sacred herbs, Mullein has been used to banish negative spirits, entities, and energies that may be hanging within the human energetic field or place of dwelling. Known widely as a miner’s candle, Mullein used to be treated and used as torches in regular use in medieval times.

The medicinal uses for Mullein are endless. Its anti-inflammatory properties help ease symptoms of tonsillitis, bronchitis, sore throat, and dry cough. The flowers and leaves both contain different values to maintain health within our physical and spiritual body. When steeped as a tea, both help produce soothing effects on the throat. As an infused oil, the flowers contain antibacterial properties that aide an aching ear. The smoke of the leaves may be inhaled, to help with disease of the lungs, utilizing its muciligenic properties to coat them to protect against infection, bacteria, and inflammation.

The leaves have small hairs that may cause mechanical irritation in the mouth and throat if not filtered out prior to consumption, so steep mullein in a fine, mesh tea bag or ball.

Mullein may react poorly with echinacea, comfrey, irish moss, yarrow, garlic, and ginseng. It may also inhibit how effective antidiabetic drugs interact with the system, as it may reduce the potassium in your system.
