Look Through the Mist: Find the Mystery

Eriu’s Eyes

Don’t cloud your judgment with doubt-believe! The secret of divine creation is within you. The goddess is waiting to help you manifest your dreams.

The Skellig Islands are off the southwest coast of Ireland. Also “into the west” was Tir na Nog – the enchanted land of the Tuatha de Danann. This was a place of eternal youth and magic recorded in song, verse, and prose in the Irish mystery tradition. In the diffuse light of the Otherworld, the goddess Eriu, for whom Ireland is named, peers out of the mist over Little Skellig island. The thousands of gannets that nest there swirl up into the sky, creating an ethereal halo above her head. In the sixth century, monks settled on Skellig Michael, eight miles from shore. This was one of those storehouses of literature, music, and history that is said to have saved European culture from extinction in the Dark Ages. In the foreground, the enigmatic dolphin named Fungi, a wild resident of the Dingle Peninsula, frolics in the waves.
