5 of Cups
5 of Cups
Key Words: mourning, feelings of loss, sadness, regret, repentance, bitterness, frustration
Cups represent water, the soul, relationships, emotions, creativity, imagination, friends, family, and receptivity.
The Five of Cups symbolizes the emotional response to loss rather than the loss itself. When it comes to a change, whether truly traumatic, like the death of a loved one, or ones that might seem mundane (but still deeply affect you), such as the loss of a job, a romantic breakup, loosing your home, or even the ending of your favorite book or TV series, adjusting to life after loss takes time. Make sure to allow yourself the space and freedom to feel and honour your grief. Keeping it boxed away won’t help with the healing process.
On the other hand, don’t stay in the mourning for too long. If you continue, you begin indulging rather than processing your feelings. Without moving toward healing, this sadness could shift toward depression and become your new normal. After the right amount of time, turn around and notice what you still have and be grateful.
